Synopsis:

The Billionaire’s Club: The wealthiest, most powerful men, not only in Chicago, but in the world.  They are used to having whatever they want, whenever they want it.

Luke Preston is the ultimate playboy among his billionaire friends.  Every bad girl in Chicago has surrendered in his bed.  Some good girls, too.  But when he ends up in the hospital after an assassination attempt, his friends suggest he take a long vacation to recoup, regroup and lay off the women until the man is caught.  However, when Luke lays eyes on the stunning brunette across the beach, she inspires every dark, erotic thought his mind can conjure.

Peyton Lane has always been serious and responsible and she’s determined to have some fun for once in her life.  And that means a deliciously, sexy affair with a stranger while she’s on vacation.  So when a blond Adonis named Luke crosses her path at the Cancun resort, she’s determined that he will be the one. But Peyton gets more than she bargained for when Luke introduces her to a passion unlike any she has ever experienced and she discovers that behind that charming smile are secrets and a beautiful, damaged soul.

My Thoughts:

This was a light and very steamy read. It’s a sexy story about a vacation fling and two people finding the love they didn’t know they needed. I liked both Luke and Peyton well enough, but the story is so short there wasn’t much depth or character development. The sex scenes were really well written and very hot. The HEA is believable even if it felt a bit rushed.

Taken By Him is the second book in the series, but can be read as a stand-alone. If you’re looking for something sexy and fun that won’t take up a lot your time this is one to read.

Synopsis:

Time changes everything, except what’s meant to be.

Seven years is a long time – long enough to transform Clementine from a small-town teenager with a broken heart into a woman ready to take on the world, but not long enough to make her forget about the man she was never supposed to see again. A temporary return to tiny Willow Heights thrusts her back into Donovan’s life and home, unearthing heartbreak and obsession that have stood the test of time.

He left seven years ago too, for war and other things Clementine can only imagine. Coming back to the town where he grew up in the shadow of poverty and drug addiction makes no sense, and neither do Clementine’s feelings for him. He could never forgive her for leaving, could he? Even if she had no choice.

Now, she has the freedom to choose … and so does he. Every day in Willow Heights makes it clearer: all he ever really wanted was her, and nothing will change that. Not even a taste of the hell that drove them apart in the first place.

Review:

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started this book. I usually do more “research”, but I didn’t with this one and was pleasantly surprised. It’s going to be difficult for me to review without spoiling too much, but I’ll give it my best.

Young love torn apart by a traumatic event made even worse by those who are supposed to care for and believe Clementine. She returns seven years after being forced to leave Donovan looking for work. They are thrown together again when Donovan comes to her rescue. Back together and in love they have to fight to stay together and Clementine fights to keep Donovan free. I liked Clementine’s strength and loved Donovan; he’s hot, sweet and will protect his love with all he’s got.

Overall this is a good read and kept me turning the pages. If you’re looking for a steamy second chance love story that has just enough angst/tension, mystery, and a satisfactory HEA then I recommend this one.

Review: Single Dad’s Christmas Miracle

Single Dad's Christmas Miracle

Single Dad’s Christmas Miracle by Susan Meier
Pages: 256
Publisher: Harlequin Romance
Source: Publisher
Publication Date: Oct. 1, 2013
My Rating: 3.5  3.5

Synopsis:

He needs a helping hand…

Having recently lost his wife, Clark Beaumont is trying to make it through the holidays for the sake of his kids. But with his son failing at school and his little girl talking only in whispers, he needs nothing short of a miracle….

…when one arrives on his doorstep!

Althea Johnson is only meant to tutor Clark’s son. But with her help the Beaumont family begins to come alive again, and against the odds Althea hopes that when Christmas morning arrives there will be four stockings hanging over the fireplace…

My Thoughts:

This is a sweet and tender love story at heart. The issues that Clark and Althea had to deal with were difficult and unfortunately common ones. They were handled well and realistically.  The characters were believable and fully developed.

Clark lost his wife three years ago and learned the devastating secret she was keeping; a secret that destroyed his trust in women. His son Jack, who I loved, is having trouble with his schooling. What Clark doesn’t see is the other emotional trouble his son is in. Teagan his three year old daughter is also having issues that Clark dismisses as shyness. Little did he know that hiring Althea would turn his life and family around? Making him deal with a difficult issue that he has ignored and has caused him to act in a manner that he didn’t realize actually hurt his children.

Althea has been dealing with the severe abuse and its affects all her life. Having moved back to her home state to be near her sister she takes the tutoring job. As someone who knows the signs of a child suffering she can see what is really going on with Clark and his children. The fact that Clark truly loves and wants to protect his family is what keeps her there. Clark is inadvertently hurting himself and his kids, dealing with the aftermath of his wife’s death as best he can. Althea is a naturally caring and nurturing person; she works her magic on the family and helps them heal. In the process she falls for Clark and opens up to him, which takes her closer to her own healing. Watching Althea work through her past, deal with her insecurities, and grab the future she wants was both heart wrenching and heartwarming.

Overall this a good holiday read. Its focus is on family and healing. If you are looking for an uplifting sweat romance with a very satisfactory ending this is for you.

Mia's ReturnMia’s Return (Destiny’s Trinities #2) by Tracy Cooper-Posey
Pages: 95
Publisher: Tracy Cooper-Posey
Source: Publisher/NetGalley
Release Date: Oct. 4, 2013
My Rating: 3.5

Synopsis:

Alex has a past he’d rather no one learns about…until Mia returns.

Ten years ago Alexander hungered for Mia Menendez and for a single day they had indulged that passion before tragedy struck. Now Mia is back, but she thinks Alexander died ten years ago, and no man has been able to stir her heart since. The truth could kill her.

Wyatt Whitacker, demon hunter, hates Alexander and all his kind.  But one look at Mia and her pulse-stopping curves and his scarred, angry heart begins to melt and his body to rouse in ways he’s long forgotten.

The bonding has begun…

Warning:  This story features two super hot alpha heroes, multiple sex scenes, including anal sex, MM sexual play, and MMF sex.  Do not read this book if frank sexual language and sex scenes offend you.
No non-humans were harmed except for large numbers of Grimoré, who died with satisfactory squeals…

My Thoughts:

Another sizzling erotic romance that I didn’t put down until the end; which came way too soon.  This is the second book of the Destiny’s Trinities series and they must be read in order.

Mia has loved Alex since she was 16 and only shared one unforgettable encounter with him, but she has never forgotten him. No man has been able to move her the way he did. Imagine her shock when she sees him across an elevator and he runs from her. I loved the way she got his contact information. Telling Alex and trying to convince herself she just wants to see him and know that he’s happy and she’ll leave leads to the introduction of the next evil character into the story.

Alex is a man tortured by his past behavior and actions on top of having to leave Mia. He can’t refuse her request to talk. After he rejects her and she runs of course he goes after her. This is where Wyatt shows up and pretty much saves them both. The journey toward the bonding is an emotional and healing one. All three must face past hurts and fears of what they will become.

The characters are well developed and the story flowed nicely from the first book into this one. I’m again left waiting for the third novella. The ending is a cliffhanger and again I wish it had been longer. I recommend this series to anyone looking for well written and very hot m/m/f sex in all its wonderful varieties.

Review: Wish Upon A Star

Wish Upon a Star

Wish Upon A Star by Michelle McLean
Publisher: Entangled: Ever After
Review Source: Publisher/NetGalley
Publication Date: Sept. 30, 2014
My Rating: 2.5

Synopsis:

Ceri McKinley never stopped wishing that her ex-fiancé Jason Crickett would come back into her life. But when he finally does, he comes with a request that puts them both—and all of humanity—into jeopardy.

Jason only wants two things: to bury his brother properly and to convince Ceri to trust him again after he jilted her. But when Ceri agrees to help him get his brother back, they end up fighting for their lives as the second zombie uprising threatens them all.

My Thoughts:

This is a short story about a second chance romance. It started a bit slow for me, but when they got into Ceri’s ex-husbands offices the action started and didn’t stop. The story basically revolves around Ceri and Jason trying to save her daughter during a zombie outbreak. While fighting their way up the building and back they both wonder what if? Do they try again?

Ceri hasn’t seen Jason for five years, ever since he called of their wedding. In those years she married a very crazy man and divorced him. Ceri is still tied to him through their daughter and that’s how she ends up in an office with her ex-husband and ex-fiancé. Yep, it’s as awkward as it sounds.

Overall it’s a fairly good short story full of action with a bit of romance. It’s well written and the characters are fully developed. My only issue with it is the ending. It just abruptly ended; it felt more like a HFN instead of a HEA. Without major spoilers I can’t explain it in detail, I just hope there is more to the story.

Synopsis:

Woman Hater:
Everyone in Nicole White’s office described their boss’s mysterious older brother as a real woman hater. So when Nicki had to tag along with her ailing employer to his brother’s Montana home, she was prepared for the worst.

To her surprise, what she found was a man more roughly masculine than any she’d ever met. But Winthrop Christopher’s distrust of women ran straight to the bone. Nicki knew she should steer clear of him, but she couldn’t hide the feelings he stirred in her. Could she ever teach him to love again?

The Humbug Man
Montana rancher Tate Hollister was the grouchiest widower Maggie Jeffries had ever met. But, as the holiday season progressed, Maggie discovered that Tate wasn’t completely immune to the Christmas spirit. In fact, his loving embrace might just be the gift of a lifetime….

My Thoughts:

Woman Hater
★★★★☆
This is a love story about two damaged people. Winthrop is a man that was not only left emotionally, but also physically broken by a past relationship. The woman he was with had a devastating car accident while she was driving. When it became apparent that Winthrop would not fully recover she left him. This betrayal had left him hating women, especially rich ones. He refuses to even attempt to love or trust again. That is until he meets Nicki.

Nicki lived a privileged upbringing in that she wanted for nothing that money could buy. It couldn’t buy her parents love however and when her mother dies she blames her father and renounces him and all his money. At the same time her fiancé dumps her for reasons that leave her scarred. Now living in Chicago her boss wants her to go to his brother’s ranch for a month. Not being able to live without pay for that long she goes and as expected falls hard for the woman hating brother.

This is basically a story about two people learning to love and trust again. Of course they couldn’t do so without each other. I really enjoyed the dance of Winthrop and Nicki as they would get close and then pull back. There is also the side story of Gerald and Sadie which was nice and didn’t overshadow the main plot. I also loved Mary, the housekeeper; she added some much appreciated humor.

The Humbug Man
★★★☆☆

This is a quick sweet read. Maggie and Tate have both lost their spouses and have been alone for years. Tate has hidden his hurt with a cold attitude and distance; while Maggie has basically hid behind work and raising her son. Spending time at the ranch her father-in-law left her over Christmas put her next door to Tate. They’re attracted to each other and as Tate thaws out and Blake’s plans come together they fall in love.

Overall this is very sweet story of two lonely and hurt people finding each other. The pace is fast, but it needed to be for the length of the story.

Publisher: Cecilia Robert

Release Date: Oct. 25, 2013
My Rating: 4 ★★★★☆

Synopsis:

*Mature Content Warning* 17+ for language and sexual content.

Five years ago, twenty-three-year-old panther shifter Sera Czedar left her home and her newly mated groom in a humiliating position after a mating ceremony gone wrong. She built a new life for herself in Varselles; the City of Outcasts where shifters exiled from their clans in the Seven Kingdoms can go for sanctuary.

Five years ago, panther shifter Levian Grayson was abandoned on the bonding bed by his bride, Sera. After years of tracking her, he arrives in Varselles, intent on staking his claim on her once and for all, even if it means hauling her over his shoulder just to make sure that happens.

Sera has always known her homecoming would eventually catch up with her one day. The one thing she can’t bear to do is hurt Levian, which will happen as soon as he finds out the reason she left him. Is she ready to take that path? Most of all, will Levian still want her when the truth comes out?

My Thoughts:

The first thing I noticed and loved was the cover. This is the first time I’ve read any of Cecilia Robert’s work and I’m really glad I gave it a try. I love finding new authors and unique stories and this one is definitely unique. It’s a cross between steampunk and paranormal. There are shifters, humans with talent and a mixture of the two. Good writing and Great world building brought the story to life.

Sera is a woman with secrets and hurts. She is living with outcast to hide both of these, but in the five years since she ran from her mate she’s forgotten to keep looking over her shoulder. It hasn’t been easy for her to survive. Sera has had to change from the young lady she was to the strong capable woman she’s become. What she’s had to do and undergo to survive has made her one badass heroine. When I found out what her big secret was my heart just broke for the innocent and vulnerable girl she used to be. I was impressed with Sera’s determination and strength to overcome her past and continue to move forward.

Levian is an Alpha in the best way. Hot, loving, tender, and most importantly faithful. He also has a very forgiving heart for those he loves. He has suffered for five years without his mate and in this novella he finds Sera and learns why she ran away. The conflicting emotions are portrayed perfectly. One minute he’s furious and a bit cold and mean; the next he can’t keep his hands off of Sera.

I did not get enough of Levian and Sera! I sincerely hope the next Cloaked Devices is a continuation of their story.   I would recommend this to anyone that likes a love story and/or paranormal romances. It’s also a great read for anyone who’s never read steampunk; it’s a gentle introduction into the genre.

 Book Description:

Business partners, Smith and Brock share their fortune, success, and they share their women. A healthy competitive streak built MDR Software into a multi-million-dollar enterprise, and their on-going bets continuously raise the stakes. The current proposition: an arranged ménage encounter through the sex club, Castle Dolce Vita. The prize: a sexy kitten, Kyra.

While the two wealthy, powerful men are enough to pique Kyra’s interests to fulfill the Pact of Seduction and live out her ultimate fantasy, a bet forged between the men comes with an intriguing promise. Her pleasure is now part of their wager.

Soon, Kyra fights against her desire for the men as she struggles through the complications of a ménage relationship. Of course, the men take their bets seriously and are determined to show Kyra that in this game of seduction no one loses.

My Review:

This is a really good, really HOT read. I was thrown right into the story and the first steamy and intense ménage scene from page one. I was engaged in the story from start to finish. I liked all three of the main characters and found them to be believable, especially Kyra.

Kyra just wants to fulfill a fantasy and enlists Smith and Brock to help. She isn’t looking for anything deeper or lasting. Unfortunately she didn’t count these two being as hot, alpha and irresistible. When it came to protect herself and avoid living the life her mother did with her father Kyra has to rip her heart out and walk away. Lucky for her the “boys” would have none of that 😉 I want my own Brock and Smith, these guys are good at everything they do and when they decided they want Kyra they aren’t letting anything stand in their way.
I’m really pleased with the ending. The only problem is that, once again, I’d have loved to have more of these three. Although Bet On Ecstasy is the third book in the Pact of Seduction series it can be read as a stand-alone. I plan to go back and start the series from the beginning.

If you’re looking for a quick read that has emotion, well developed characters, oh and plenty of steamy, hot and good ménage sex this is definitely one to pick up.

Blurb:

Parker Davis has conquered three major American cities and is the new ‘it’ man in massage. He earned the nickname ‘Feather Light’ for his sensual touches, tender caresses, and soft voice eliciting an almost orgasmic release. Clients from all over clamor for his services and his clientele are growing by the minute. Business is at its peak, which makes Parker a busy man who has no time to deal with problems, let alone dwell on his blindness. With his declining vision, Parker has to accept his limitations and the changes brought forth by this disease, but he is not ready to relinquish the last control he has left. He is still the master in his bedroom.

Kelly Storm, a Hollywood actress, will do whatever it takes to get some much-deserved peace. Being famous has its perks, except the little privacy her popularity afforded her is slowly eating at her. With the paparazzi hounding her every minute of the day, and her personal life under constant scrutiny, Kelly wants a semblance of normalcy wherever she can get it. Under the urging of a close friend, she agrees give Parker a try.

Their first meeting is nothing she expected. Kelly finds comfort in his gentle probing and the spellbinding experience guaranteed to keep her coming back for more. Parker knows the woman on his table is special. He feels her vulnerability with his fingertips and her smooth curves leave a burning ache inside him.

One night of steamy passion is all it takes to know that they wanted each other in more ways than one. Kelly hides in heavy disguises, making it impossible for Parker to know her true identity. What secret is Kelly keeping and will she trust Parker enough to tell him the truth? Will Parker see beyond Kelly’s lies to show her what a future with him holds?

My Thoughts:

This was a nicely paced enjoyable read about two people with a few issues to deal with. I was happy with the fact that it focused on the relationship between Parker and Kelly. Don’t misunderstand there was some angst but nothing that had to do with anyone being in danger or chased in any way. That was fairly refreshing.

Parker has to deal with his increasing blindness and face the fact that he really hasn’t dealt with it no matter how hard he pretends to. I liked him a lot, but thought he went way OTT when he found Kelly’s true identity. I won’t spoil it, but it was tough to read and forgive him, which I felt Kelly did way too easy. I understood why Kelly kept her fame a secret. She wanted to be loved for the real person she was, not the one on the big screen. I think she should’ve divulged this little tid bit sooner; maybe Parker wouldn’t have gone so far off the rails. The knowledge of who Kelly was brought everything to a head and the two of them had to face their issues and do it on their own.

Overall, this is a heartwarming story with some wonderfully hot and steamy sex scenes and a happy ending 🙂

Synopsis:

Sometimes in life….

Things were supposed to get better when Ryan met Lili. I was supposed to move on, get a life… but I’m stuck and lost. Things with my father are not good. There are demons in our closet, big ones. Ones I want to kill him for, I’m seeing a shrink, I’m trying to get better… but my life feels out of control, like I’m a raft adrift on the sea. I don’t know where to look, how to get anchored again, and then I meet Zoe Stone. Something about her draws me out of my rut, makes me laugh for real, smile, and for the first time in years I want to be more. But what will she think when she discovers who I really am?

…all we have…

When Alexander Donovan, aka The Golden Adonis, walks into my tattoo parlor, I know I’ll do anything to make that man mine. There’s an instant connection, a need to know more about him. Everything about him. But there’s also a mystery surrounding the guy, when people look at him they only see the man that laughs, that cracks jokes and makes the world think that everything’s okay, but I see the truth… I see the darkness that lurks so deep inside few would ever recognize it. I want to help him; I want to be with him, now I just have to make him trust me enough to let me in.

Is Right Now

My Thoughts:

I loved this book as much as the first in the Moments series. I was hooked from the first page and stayed up way too late to finish. This is about Alex, cousin to Ryan from the first book. As with the previous book Right Now deals with the same dark and difficult issues. I’m starting to get spoiled by the great writing and captivating stories from this author.

Alex was introduced in the first book, but we get to know who he really is this time around. Alex has spent his life making sure Ryan was alright, as alright as he’d ever be, since the incident when he was six. Ever since Ryan got his life on track Alex has been lost. His façade of the smiling, laughing, and everything is fine is starting to crack; even if no one really notices. He uses sex with multiple forgettable (to him) women to forget and cope with the devastation his father has caused. It’s the fortune from a fortune cookie that causes him to admit he doesn’t like the way his life is headed and results in his impulsive trip to the tattoo parlor. This where he meets Zoe, who turns out to be the one woman he can’t forget.

Zoe knows who Alex is and doesn’t fawn all over him or give in as all the other women in his life has done. She gives him as good as he’s ever given. Loved the way she played him the first time. Zoe has her issues with her family as well, but she seems to have come to terms with it in a more healthy way. Not that they don’t still hurt her, or that her mother isn’t still distant and disapproving. Zoe takes the journey from rock bottom and self-destruction toward a healthy and productive life with Alex. She gets hurt by Alex more than once and lets him know that she won’t but up with his behavior any longer. Its Zoe’s strength to let him go that pushes Alex to face some serious demons and tell her the truth. I felt for Zoe and got just as mad at Alex, but knowing what she didn’t was frustrating at times. I was so happy when Alex came clean with her and loved the way they “reconnected” after the revelation. When Alex allows himself he can be so sweet and loving.

Mostly focusing on Alex and Zoe’s story we get to see more of Ryan and Lili. Ryan and Alex’s therapist is also introduced and she is a great addition to the story. We get to see that help is needed to deal with these issues, but the therapist is loving, tough, funny, and effective. I wish I’d had a therapist like her when I was dealing with these issues.

I also got to meet Thor, a friend and coworker of Zoe. I really got to like him and can’t wait for his story. That right there’s going to be a third book in the series and it’s about Thor!

Yes, this is a story dealing with very serious and difficult subjects and it was difficult to read at times, but there was also some laugh out loud moments. There’s a wonderful balance of humor, angst, and romance. I applaud the way Marie Hall dealt with the issues! They were handled realistically with no sugar coating. She shows how many people are affected by the betrayal of Alex’s father and how everyone deals with it differently. The characters are very believable. They aren’t perfect and make mistakes, some over and over again until they finally learn from them.

Do I recommend this series? Yes! Be warned to tread carefully if certain things are triggers for you, this is a difficult but rewarding read. I have to say that you must read the first book A Moment before this story good thing it’s free right now.
