Hyena Heat, #3
Release date – August 12th!

Raised by wolves, were-hyena Whisper Callahan has spent the better part of her life struggling to fit into a world where she’s the odd one out. Her adopted family loves her, of that she has no doubt, but now they’re encouraging her to connect with her own kind. At an annual gathering of unmated were-hyenas in Pennsylvania, Whisper finds herself torn between the past she never knew and the family who raised her as their own.

Were-hyenas Nyte, Azrael, and Fade don’t expect much to come from the gathering except a few days off from work at Stone’s Gym in Dalton, Kentucky. They don’t expect to follow the sound of tears and find their mate crying in the woods. And they certainly don’t expect to find themselves trying to protect her from her own family while she comes to terms with all that she learns about herself and her past. But hyenas are nothing if not protective of their mates, and they’re willing to do whatever it takes to keep her safe. And keep her forever.

It wouldn’t be a Hyena Heat novel without plenty of hot m/f/m/m loving, three males that would do anything for their mate, and a female that is in need of love. Expect plenty of possessive behavior and excessive use of the word ‘mine’.

Hyena Heat, #1

After narrowly avoiding a personal disaster, she-wolf Alyssa Morgan can’t wait to leave her wolf pack and start her life over. Trying to rebuild her shattered self-esteem, she swears off relationships. When she accepts a job at Stone’s gym, working for three hunky were-hyena brothers, she discovers the hardest thing she ever had to do wasn’t leaving her pack, but keeping them at arm’s length.

Dante, Cairo, and Mason Stone have been unlucky in love. As were-hyenas, they need to share a mate, and they hadn’t found the right woman… until Alyssa walks through the door. But the sweet she-wolf is anything but interested in a relationship with them. Oppressed within her wolf pack, she doesn’t see herself as worthy of their affection. When her life is threatened and they almost lose her, they decide it’s time to convince her that she is their mate and they are perfect for each other.

This story contains one she-wolf trying to find herself, three overprotective were-hyenas with love on their minds, m/f/m/m interaction, neck biting, and symbolic tattoos.

Synopsis:

When Orion and his were-hyena clan rescue a she-wolf hiding in a bus station bathroom, they had no idea that they would be staring into the tear-filled eyes of their mate. They’ll do anything to keep her safe and make her theirs forever, even if it means keeping her at arms’ length.

Sydney Nichols never believed she would know what freedom felt like until she found a way to escape her abusive mate. But before she escaped, her mate did something to her, and she’s unable to hide the effects of his tampering when the group is stranded overnight during a storm. When the truth comes out, will they forgive her and embrace their future, or will she lose the only good thing she’s ever had?

My Thoughts:

I really liked this story. What I liked about it most, I think, was the fact that even though the heroine is in danger it resolved with a lot of story left over. The ending is not rushed, feels natural and is believable. This is the second book in the series, but can be read as a stand-alone.

Sydney is one of the strongest heroines I’ve read in a while. She has so much to deal with, yet does with courage and an eye to the future. Sydney is sold to be mated by her very neglectful mother when she’s only 18. Her new “mate” abuses her in every way for years. The one act of kindness shown to her is when she is given the means for escape. Before she runs her abusive mate does something that makes the night very hard on her and very interesting for her and her rescuers.

I just loved Orion, Crux, and Sterling. Not only have they found their mate, but they have to deal with her being a survivor of terrible abuse. Of course they help her through what was done to her on the night of her escape, but after that they back off and try to let her lead. What they don’t know is she’s waiting for them to make the first move. This causes a bit more hurt to Sydney, but it is straightened out shortly. The men’s personalities came out clearly, their different characteristics were apparent and they had depth.

The sex was oh so HOT and plentiful, but didn’t feel repetitive. Butler handled the ménage scenes very well. I would recommend this to those looking for an extended happily ever after with lots of steamy action and tender caring Heroes who happen to turn furry every now and then. This will probably be a book I will re-read.

Blurb:

Amanda Johnson only has one thing in mind when it comes to Cody Reese. The cowboy has another, and it involves both his brothers. Haunted by their past, Knox, Jace and Cody have their reasons for minding secrets as they lure Amanda into their wicked fantasies.

Wary of men thanks to her own silent demons, Amanda gives into her passion only to find her trust shattered. When things turn deadly, Amanda begins to wonder whether love will lead to her salvation, or destruction.

My Thoughts:

A little conflicted over this one. I wanted to really love it, but I didn’t. It was good and a very good size for an eBook. My issues are personal opinions. It was well written and the characters really were developed and brought to life.

Knox was too cruel. I get that the author wanted there to be strife and conflict between him and Amanda, but I just think it went overboard. I would never have forgiven him for some of the things he said and did.  He would only call me a whore once and never see me again. It wasn’t just his hurtful words but his entire attitude. Knox had a problem falling/being love and took his confusion and pain out on Amanda. It wasn’t until after the final straw for Amanda and she left that he came to accept that he wanted her. I don’t there was enough remorse or groveling from Knox for Amanda to take him back.

I loved Jace.  He truly loved Amanda and treated her accordingly. He was there for her emotionally and tried to build her up not down. My only issue is that he didn’t beat the shit out of Know enough.

Cody is the baby brother and his personality showed it. He was all about fun and getting what he wanted. He devastates Amanda with his obsessive loyalty to another woman. Cody also says something that degrades Amanda and shows his immaturity in a public setting. He truly felt horrible for his actions, but it was more than Amanda could take. It took him awhile to admit to himself and a little longer for him to tell Amanda that he loved her.

Amanda is a woman with some self-worth issues. I felt as if she was too confrontational to hide insecurities. Sometimes, Amanda would be antagonistic to a fault and then get all hurt when the reaction she gets is appropriate. Then she takes more, of what I would consider hateful and borderline abusive, than anyone ever should from the brothers, especially Knox. Amanda does eventually leave the brothers due to their behavior, but this was after she went back and forth a few times.  It took her a bit, but Amanda gets some backbone and stands up for herself.

Maybe it was a little too long. The relationship between the brothers and Amanda seemed to take a circular route and too long to develop into something loving and healthy for it got a little aggravating. It ends with more of a HFN then a HEA. It feels like the story should continue with the next book, not a conclusive ending.

Review of The Reluctant Virgin (Ride’em Hard 6)

For readers over 18!!

The Reluctant Virgin [Ride ’em Hard 6] by Stacey Espino

My Rating: 4/5

Cindy Taylor has reinvented herself after a childhood she’d rather forget. Its seven years later when she’s forced to return to her hometown on business. She’s a new woman with the same deep-seated vulnerabilities thanks to her disability.

Her regular client, Josh Granger, and two men from her past, Matthew Garner and Chance Anderson, are all hell-bent on making her theirs. But Cindy can’t bring herself to reveal her secret, choosing to live a lie instead. She wants nothing more than to experience the sexual fantasies these men promise, but her fear of rejection is just as strong.

Cindy will have to overcome her personal demons if she’s to experience the happily ever after she was certain would pass her by. It’s a race against time because the men won’t wait around forever, and Cindy is the most reluctant virgin

I really liked this book.  Although I’ve really liked everything of Stacey Espino’s I’ve read. This one will tug at your heart.  It wasn’t like a lot of ménage out there where the men involved already know that’s the type of relationship they want.  Josh, Matthew and Chance come to this decision when Cindy admits to loving them all and doesn’t want to choose.

Cindy was tormented her entire childhood and it has her convinced that she will always be alone. No man could want her once they know her secret. She molded herself into a strong self-sufficient woman, at least to the outside world.   It was hard at times to watch (read) her deal with her hurt and anger.  I’ll admit her lack of confidence was annoying at times, but it was relevant to the story.  With the patience and love of the men involved she blossomed into a truly strong and loving woman who not only accepts love but expects it from “her men”.

What can I say about the men? Hot, sexy, alpha and once they love they love completely.  Chance is my favorite, for his patience and immediate acceptance of what Cindy needs.

Josh starts out a playboy and has a difficult time admitting that he’s in love. When he finally does he has the hardest time with the idea of a ménage.

Matthew is a childhood friend that was always there for Cindy.  He has a hard time convincing her that he could want her.  Let’s just say he take me on a picnic any day!

The sex scenes were steamy and very well done. They weren’t too long or drawn out and not quickies just to get through them.   It didn’t come across as cheesy, which seems to be the case a little too often with these types of stories.
