Book Description:

Max is on the run, but is he running from his past, or toward his future? Only Ulf knows…

Werewolf Max knows desiring males is wrong, but he can’t help himself. When his pack nearly kills him in an attempt to cleanse him, Max runs. Jumping on his motorcycle, he heads north.

Ulf has lived on his own in the wilds of Northern Ontario for a long time. When he catches the scent of a stranger in his territory, he’s angry at first, until he realizes that Max is more than just another werewolf. They’re mates.

Ulf must make Max believe that two males can be mates, but just as he’s about to succeed, Max’s past catches up with him. Will the home they’ve been hoping to build together be lost for good?

About the Author:

Often referred to as “Space Cowboy” and “Gangsta of Love” while still striving for the moniker of “Maurice,” Sean Michael spends his days surfing, smutting, organizing his immense gourd collection and fantasizing about one day retiring on a small secluded island peopled entirely by horseshoe crabs. While collecting vast amounts of vintage gay pulp novels and mood rings, Sean whiles away the hours between dropping the f-bomb and pursuing the kama sutra by channeling the long lost spirit of John Wayne and singing along with the soundtrack to “Chicago.”

A long-time writer of complicated haiku, currently Sean is attempting to learn the advanced arts of plate spinning and soap carving sex toys.

Barring any of that? He’ll stick with writing his stories, thanks, and rubbing pretty bodies together to see if they spark.

Exclusive excerpt for Darker Passions

“Did you get everything you need?” Bryce asked.

Tom looked over to find Bryce was pulling on a long-sleeved T-shirt. It was a real shame to see that body covered.

“I need to see the room where the meeting’s going to be held. I’ll put in a preliminary report tonight, and Jax, the head of Council security, will be here tomorrow. I’m sorry to say that he’s probably going to ask exactly the same questions I have, as well as a hell of a lot more.”

“Doesn’t sound the most efficient use of taxpayers’ money,” Bryce said, opening the kitchen door and holding it for Tom to follow him.

Tom shrugged noncommittally. He didn’t disagree, but at the same time, sometimes the only way to spot that there was something wrong was by comparing different versions of what they’d been told.

“We’ve only got two rooms that would be large enough for everyone,” Bryce said. “I don’t know whether Matt will go with the kitchen or the living room. Depends on how formal he’s feeling, I guess—or how much coffee everyone’s going to need.”

Tom nodded absently as he glanced around the kitchen again. It was wide open to the yard with those windows—any sniper would have a field day from the trees. There was a door that opened into a pantry and another to a small room crammed with boots and coats and a washer and dryer, which also had an external door. He frowned slightly as he saw the number of boots and the range of different sizes.

“How many of the pack actually live here?”

“All of us.”

He turned and stared at Bryce. “Doesn’t that get a bit claustrophobic?”

“Not so far,” he said. “Though at the rate we seem to be adding new members, that might change.”

“Colby’s not the only newcomer, then?”

Bryce settled himself back against the washing machine. Tom’s gaze was drawn to the way that showed off his long legs in those tight jeans, and then he found himself staring at the buckle of his belt, from where it was so easy to let his gaze drop the tiniest bit to notice the appealing way the denim bulged slightly.

“You may as well know up front—Jesse, our Argent, only joined us a few months ago.” Bryce’s voice broke into Tom’s cowboy fantasy, bringing his mind back onto why he was here. “He’d been on his own up till then.”

Tom was still not convinced that Jesse Turner really was an Argent, though he had more sense than to mention that fact to Bryce. “I’m guessing the councilors are going to want to know where he comes from,” he said, in what might just be the understatement of the century.

“Ya think?” Bryce’s lips curved into a smile.

“I’m not paid to do that,” Tom disclaimed. “I’m just the muscle.”

Bryce made a point of looking very slowly and appreciatively over his body. “You sure are,” he said, and then grinned at Tom in a way that made such a cheesy line somehow endearing. “I also think you’re selling yourself way short, for what it’s worth.”

Tom shrugged, uncomfortable with the feeling that Bryce actually meant what he said, rather than saying it just to flatter Tom. “So this other meeting room…” he suggested.

As he followed Bryce along the hallway, he wondered why Bryce’s obvious and repeated come-ons weren’t off-putting. He thought it was because, despite his lines, there was nothing sleazy about him. He was just putting it out there that he found Tom attractive, but not in a way that left Tom feeling uncomfortable. The fact Bryce was extremely easy on the eye didn’t hurt, of course.

About the Author:

Joy Lynn Fielding is a sucker for happy endings. She believes, however, that if characters don’t suffer along the way, they won’t fully appreciate being happy. Not all of her characters thank her for this viewpoint, but what do they know?

Joy lives in a small English market town, but also inhabits a number of fictional worlds at any one time, reflecting what she’s writing and what she’s reading. She has a tendency to share enthusiastically with anyone who will listen the latest fascinating facts she’s stumbled across in her research for books. Thankfully she has a very patient Labrador, who has a gift for looking as though he’s interested in what she’s saying while he waits for the food to arrive.

Review: Tempting His Mate

Tempting His Mate (Crescent Moon #3) by Savannah Stuart

Release Date:  November 13, 2013
My Rating: 4 ★★★★☆

Synopsis:

She ran from him once…

Wild one night stands are not Ella Hayes’s style, but with her confidence at rock bottom after a devastating betrayal and her painful departure from her jaguar pride, who could blame her for falling into bed with a sexy wolf? She never thought she’d see him again. And never in her craziest dreams did she expect to come face-to-face with him on her first day with the Kincaid wolf pack. Sleeping with Asher had been one of the most intense experiences of her life—but now she wonders if they could have more.

He’s not letting her go again…

Tired of life as a lone wolf, shifter Asher has joined his cousin’s pack. The last person he expected to see was the sexy woman who ran out on him in the middle of the most incredible night of his life. The Ella he meets now is nothing like the wild, sensual woman he let his guard down with, but he likes both sides of the complicated female. But now somebody—or something—sinister is targeting Ella, and Asher moves quickly to get her under his roof and under his protection. Keeping the sexy female safe and proving they belong together are two missions he doesn’t plan to fail. Because this time, he’s playing for keeps.

My Thoughts:

Another well written and enjoyable read in the Crescent Moon series; this is book 3 but can be read as a standalone.

Ella decides to stop at a shifter only bar on her way to her new pack and do something she never does – let herself go and enjoy the alpha wolf that sets her blood to boiling. Ella never expected to see him again, especially as one of her new pack members. She still wants him, but needs to face her insecurities and the resent betrayal from her sister.

Asher is still reeling from a centuries old loss and doesn’t feel as if he deserves another chance at love. Then he runs into Ella in a bar and they have one wonderful night, but he finds her gone in the morning. Surprised to see her across the room as he meets with his new alpha Asher realizes he isn’t going to let her go. Asher pursues Ella with patience and tenderness. He’s the best mix of tough alpha and a caring male. He even opens up and talks about his past and feelings with Ella.

If you’re looking for steamy romance, hot shifters, and a bit of mystery I highly recommend this one.

My Rating: 3 stars

Synopsis:

Geneva “Neva” Ross doesn’t want to die. But now that she’s been turned into a werewolf against her will, she’ll do anything to protect her family and friends…even if that means taking her own life.

After witnessing Neva’s leap from a high ledge, Travis Williamson—a Changeling with a dark past—uses his powers to save her life. He feels a connection to the strong-willed woman whose eyes flash that familiar Changeling green. While Neva is hospitalized, Travis risks everything to kidnap her, knowing the approaching full moon will put everyone in jeopardy.

Bickering constantly to hide their growing attraction, Travis and Neva run from the authorities…and from Neva’s sinister sire, Meredith de la Ronde. Meredith delights in creating new shape-shifters and compelling them to do her dark bidding; now Neva must join Meredith’s murderous wolf pack…or die.

My Thoughts:

This is a good start to a new series. I loved The Changeling series and this one has the potential to be just as good.

What I liked about this one is the fact that Neva has to take time to adjust to and accept being a Changeling. That probably has a lot to do with how she was changed. She doesn’t understand what she is and is terrified, for good reason. The person who changed Neva wanted to have her under complete control. The fact that both Neva and Travis had some issues to face in order to move forward was well done.

I liked Travis. At first he did take a while to understand what his wolf was trying to tell him and it made it feel as if his wolf had its own thoughts and opinions. It was a nice addition to the werewolf mythology.

Neva and Travis are fairly quickly attracted to each other, resist that attraction and still end up bonded. Not that they are complaining. I really enjoyed that last hot and steamy scene at the end.

It did take me a bit to get into this one, it wasn’t until about the 4th chapter I got to the point I didn’t want to put it down. I was a bit confused with the party scene in the beginning. It felt like it came out of nowhere. It wasn’t until after I was through reading it that I realized it was a flash back.

Overall this is a well written story that has action, mystery, magic and shifters. Would I recommend this to my friends and people I know like PNR? Yes. This does not end with a cliffhanger it’s a HFN and it sounds as if Travis and Neva’s story will continue in the next book.

Reading Order Added: Jame Jameson Series

1. Nice Girls Don’t Have Fangs
Maybe it was the Shenanigans gift certificate that put her over the edge. When children’s librarian and self-professed nice girl Jane Jameson is fired by her beastly boss and handed twenty-five dollars in potato skins instead of a severance check, she goes on a bender that’s sure to become Half Moon Hollow legend. On her way home, she’s mistaken for a deer, shot, and left for dead. And thanks to the mysterious stranger she met while chugging neon-colored cocktails, she wakes up with a decidedly unladylike thirst for blood.

Jane is now the latest recipient of a gift basket from the Newly Undead Welcoming Committee, and her life-after-lifestyle is taking some getting used to. Her recently deceased favorite aunt is now her ghostly roommate. She has to fake breathing and endure daytime hours to avoid coming out of the coffin to her family. She’s forced to forgo her favorite down-home Southern cooking for bags of O negative. Her relationship with her sexy, mercurial vampire sire keeps running hot and cold. And if all that wasn’t enough, it looks like someone in Half Moon Hollow is trying to frame her for a series of vampire murders. What’s a nice undead girl to do?

2. Nice Girls Don’t Date Dead Men
With her best friend Zeb’s Titanic-themed wedding looming ahead, new vampire Jane Jameson struggles to develop her budding relationship with her enigmatic sire, Gabriel. It seems unfair that she’s expected to master undead dating while dealing with a groom heading for a nuptial nervous breakdown, his hostile werewolf in-laws, and the ugliest bridesmaid dress in the history of marriage.

Meanwhile, the passing of Jane’s future step-grandpa puts Grandma Ruthie back on the market. Her new fiancé, Wilbur, has his own history of suspiciously dead spouses, and he may or may not have died ten years ago. Half-Moon Hollow’s own Black Widow has finally met her match.

Should Jane warn her grandmother of Wilbur’s marital habits or let things run their course? Will Jane always be an undead bridesmaid, never the undead bride?

Combining Mary Janice Davidson’s sass and the charm of Charlaine Harris’s Sookie Stackhouse novels, this is an incredibly satisfying read for fans of paranormal romantic comedy.

3. Nice Girls Don’t Live Forever
Nothing sucks the romance out of world travel like a boyfriend who may or may not have broken up with you in a hotel room in Brussels. Jane Jameson’s sexy sire, Gabriel, has always been unpredictable. But the seductive, anonymous notes that await him at each stop of their international vacation, coupled with his evasive behavior over the past few months, finally push Jane onto the next flight home to Half Moon Hollow — alone, upset, and unsure whether Gabriel just ended their relationship without actually telling her.

Now the children’s-librarian-turned-vampire is reviving with plenty of Faux Type O, some TLC from her colorful friends and family, and her plans for a Brave New Jane. Step One: Get her newly-renovated occult bookstore off the ground. Step Two: Support her best friend, Zeb, and his werewolf bride as they prepare for the impending birth of their baby . . . or litter. Step Three: Figure out who’s been sending her threatening letters, and how her hostile pen pal is tied to Gabriel. Because for this nice girl, surviving a broken heart is becoming a matter of life and undeath…

3.5 Nice Girls Don’t Sign a Lease Without a Wedding (free online)
Nice Girls Don’t Sign a Lease Without a Wedding Ring
OK, you asked for more Jane, so I offer you a little bite of the Nice Girls universe. There will be other short stories posted here in the future. And I might possibly participate in an anthology featuring Half-Moon Hollow’s cast of weirdos. Enjoy!

4. Nice Girls Don’t Bite Their Neighbors
Just as Jane Jameson’s unlife seems to be stabilizing, fate sinks its fangs firmly into her butt. Despite her near-phobia of all things marital, her no-frills nighttime nuptials to her sexy boyfriend Gabriel are coming along smoothly. But the road to wedded bliss gets bumpy when a teenage acquaintance is fatally wounded in front of Jane’s shop and she turns him to save his life. The Council pronounces Jane responsible for the newborn vamp until he can control his thirst.

Jane’s kitchen at River Oaks barely holds enough Faux Type O to satiate the cute teen’s appetite and maintain Gabriel’s jealous streak at a slow simmer. As if keeping her hyperactive childe from sucking the blood out of the entire neighborhood isn’t enough to deal with, the persnickety ghost of Jane’s newly deceased Grandma Ruthie has declared a war on the fanged residents of River Oaks. Suddenly,
choosing monogrammed cocktail napkins and a cake that she can’t eat seems downright relaxing in comparison.

Tensions inside the house are growing…and outside, a sinister force is aiming a stake straight for the center of Gabriel’s heart. Most brides just have to worry about choosing the right dress, but Jane fears that at this rate, she’ll never make it down the aisle for the wedding all nice girls dream of…

Book Tour Review & GiveAway: Alpha Marked: Gabriella

Gabriella

ALPHA MARKED:  GABRIELLA
Series:  Alpha Marked, #2

Genre:  Paranormal Romance, BBW, Ménage,

Thirty and single? Getcha ass to the Gathering!

Ugh. Gabriella Wickham thought turning thirty was bad enough, but now she’s been invited (ordered) to attend this year’s Gathering (werewolf speed dating).  Having a Mark on her arm means that she’s one of the few human women destined to mate with not one, but two Alpha werewolves.  Thank goodness werewolves don’t come in “ugly.”  After her sister Scarlet mates the Ruling Alphas, things really start to get interesting.  Gabby runs into not one, but two, hotter than hot werewolves who make her tingle in all the right places.  Yum.  Of course, “yum” comes with baggage of both the mental and female kind.  Lovely.  Luckily it’s nothing a few punches and a good talking to can’t cure.  Maybe…-ish.

Berke Davis knows that lush, curvaceous Gabriella is his mate.  Who cares that he’s currently not part of an Alpha pair.  Details, details.  He’s been half bound to his best friend Jack since they were four but the past keeps them from solidifying their pairing and taking up the mantle of Alpha.  Berke understands his friend’s feelings, but Jack is about to get a lesson on living, and loving.  He just hopes the lessons are learned before they both lose Gabriella. Because Challenges to first blood can sometimes have very permanent, and deadly, consequences… for Gabriella.

My Review:
4 ★★★★☆

This is the second story in the Alpha Marked series focusing on the sister Gabriella and it keeps getting better. I didn’t expect to like this one as much as I did Scarlet, the first book, but I liked it even more. It’s a quick read that had me laughing at times and my heart breaking for Gabriella at others.

Berke and Jack have found their mate, but only one really wants to claim her. Jack has pain from his past that he has to face before he can accept a mate. The problem is the pain and suffering it causes his “Marked” by not confronting these issues. I’m not going to say more because this is a short read and will not spoil it.

The story flowed fairly well and I felt more connected to the sisters as the story continues. We get more of Scarlet and her two alphas throughout the story and get a peek into the third Wickham sister’s upcoming story. My only real complaint is that there seems to be enough to this story to make it much longer. I’d love more of everyone’s story I’ve met so far.

Blurb:

CEO and alpha werewolf Drake Wilder has given up the search for his one true love. When he discovers that she’s a secretary in his company, Drake’s primal instincts kick into overdrive.

What he wouldn’t give to have her fingers rake over his body instead of the keyboard…

Free-spirited bartender Emelia Hudson wants nothing more than to make her Seattle-based bar succeed. But when profits decline, she slips into a dress suit and secures a nine-to-five. After learning that her bar has become property of Wilder Financial, Emelia is determined to get some answers.

Two can play the ruthless business game. If only her attraction to the boss wasn’t so intense…

When Drake’s twin brother senses that Drake has found his match—and now inherits their father’s billion dollar estate—he hatches a plan to take Emelia out. Drake vows to protect her at all costs, but he might have to pay with his own life

My Thoughts:

This is a fun, quick, and well written read. It was a bit predictable in places, such as when Drake’s brother Silas enters the story. I liked the challenge Silas brought to the story and the fact that it was resolved pretty fast with no over the top angst.

Drake is a centuries old alpha who is set in his ways and knows what’s best, especially for Emelia. I like Drake, he’s all alpha, hot, and it was fun to watch Emelia twist his tail. This has the “He’s rich, she’s not and he’s a shifter, she’s a human” elements to it.

Emelia is an independent and at times smart mouthed bartender. All she wants from Drake is her bar back, but after finally meeting him she more than she could’ve imagined. She adds the fun to the book and together Emelia and Drake are fantastic. I loved how easy she could get under his skin and make him step outside his “box”.

The steam factor is somewhat mild yet still good. I will look forward to more of this series.
