So, off she goes with her sisters in tow. ‘Cause yeah, she’s one of the plump Wickham triplets, and they’re all being carted off to werewolf speed dating.

Keller and Madden, Ruling Alpha pair, can’t believe their luck. They’ve found their mate, and she’s more than they could have ever hoped for. She’s feisty with spirit to spare, and lush curves that they want to trace with their tongues. They can’t wait to solidify their bond and get to know the beautiful woman who is to rule at their side. Scarlet continued clicking down the wide, marble-tiled hallway, passing boutique after boutique of overpriced souvenirs and gifts. Nearing a store boasting high-end purses and accessories, she paused, pretending to look over the offerings. In reality, she took a peek at Mr. Gun Guy in the glass’ reflection.

He didn’t even pretend he wasn’t watching her. No, he stood eight feet back, hands behind him, and flat-out stared at her.

Well, she wasn’t about to have him follow her to dinner. She turned and faced him head on. “Is there a reason you’re following me?”

“Yes.” His voice was a low baritone, but it did nothing for her.

She waited for further explanation but didn’t get anything. “Okay, why?”

The man’s look remained bland. “Because the Ruling Alphas ordered your protection.”

She rolled her eyes. “Well, we’re back to why.”

“It was ordered.”

Scarlet huffed. “Do you know why and you’re not telling me, or are you simply a drone doing as he’s told?”

That earned her a quick twitch of his lips, and she knew he was trying to suppress a smile. “A little in between.”

“Fine. God forbid we complain about the Ruling Alphas and their high handedness. This is because my sisters and I got into it in the ballroom with Garron and Quentin, isn’t it? Keller and Madden tattled to them. It wasn’t our fault, you know.” Then again, the assholes had been tossed from the Gathering, so it made sense that the head honchos needed to be informed. “Well, if you’re gonna follow me around like a puppy,” she winked to take some of the sting out of her insult, “you might as well walk next to me.”

Scarlet gestured for the guard to approach, but the man stood still, his body frozen in indecision.

“Come on, I promise not to tell the big bad Ruling Alphas you actually talked to me while you acted as my guard. Hell, who knows when I’ll actually get to meet them. I’ll probably forget you by then.” She winced. “Not that you’re forgettable, I—” She huffed. “Just talk to me.”

“I don’t think—”

“Well, I do.”

She stomped toward him and tugged on his arm, ignoring the sting that accompanied touching a male not meant for her. Stupid Mark. Now that she’d met her mates, pain would accompany any contact she had with other men, human or wolf. At least until she completed her mating with Keller and Madden. Thankfully she wasn’t alone in the ouchy department. It was the same way for the guys.

“Yes, Alpha Mate.” The man grumbled but relented. Aw, her males had already spread the word about their connection. That had to be the reason she’d been upgraded from simply “Marked” to “Alpha Mate” by the guard. How sweet. Sweet-ish. She sorta wished they hadn’t jumped the gun, but Alphas were Alphas.

As uncomfortable as the wolf appeared, she didn’t bother trying to talk to him further. She simply felt better that he wasn’t following her and making her feel like a stalked chubby gazelle.

In less than a minute, they strode into the restaurant side by side, the maître d’ quickly leading them toward the back. Together, they wove their way through the room, sliding around various tables, and she noticed most were occupied by two men and a single woman.

Well, it looked like quite a few were already performing the Test of Proximity. Although she had a feeling the test was all for show. Much like the dinner she was about to enjoy.

Before long, she stood before her two wolves in the very back of the restaurant, and both men rose upon her approach. It was Madden’s growl that broke the sweet moment.

She needed to remember he was the more aggressive of the two, and apparently he didn’t like other men close to her.

Hoping her mother’s teachings had been correct, she stepped in front of the guard, redirecting the wolf’s attention. “Madden?”

The rolling sound cut off the moment his eyes met hers, the last of his air hissing from his lungs in a sigh. “Scarlet.”

She waved behind her. “The Ruling Alphas said I needed a guard. No need to get testy.”

Madden furrowed his brow. “Wha—”

Keller cut him off. “I’m sure they want to keep you safe.” He smiled and stepped around the table, drawing her forward with a hand on her lower back. The seductive scents of heated wood, raw power and man surrounded her, and she melted into his side. “You already know how to handle our Madden.”

She chanced a look at the wolf in question and noted his smile. “Perhaps.” She turned her attention back to Keller. “I’m not sure how to handle you, though.”

“I doubt that’ll be a problem, sweet. I’m like any other wolf. Give me something to snack on and you’ll have my attention.” She didn’t miss Keller’s not-so-subtle innuendo.

“Right,” she drawled.

Keller pulled out the chair and she sat between the two men. His heat warred with the inferno that flowed from Madden. Two sides of the same coin, so alike, yet so different.

The guard that had accompanied her took up a post in front of the table. He and four others essentially made a wall-o-wolves, cutting them off from the rest of the diners. Talk about overkill.

My Thoughts:
I really liked this book. It was fast paced and well written. My only problem with it was the length. I knew going in it wasn’t a full novel, but I wasn’t ready for it to end when it did. I just got to know Scarlet had a strong core that she used to hide her vulnerabilities. That she loved and was very loyal to her sisters.

The Alpha pair that turn out to be her mates, Keller and Madden, came across as very alpha and hot. There were hints of their tender, caring sides toward Scarlet but the story ended before that could be completely explored. The “claiming” (read sex) scene was oh so very hot and made me really wish to be Scarlet for a night.

In short my only problem was the length and my desire for it to be longer. I always seem to feel that way about Celia Kyle’s work.

My Rating: 5 ★★★★★

Ricky Lee has no plans of getting serious about anyone, but he will protect Toni Jean-Louis Parker. Not just because he’s been hired to do so, but because it’s the right thing to do. And if that means traveling around the country with one complicated She-jackal, dealing with chocolate-eating wild dogs, instigating trouble between his brothers, and having the most amazing sex he’s ever had…well, who said his job didn’t have perks?

Toni doesn’t know how she keeps getting herself into these situations. But even she has to admit there’s something about Ricky Lee Reed that she finds kind of interesting…and downright sexy. Now they just have to survive long enough to figure out if what they have is worth fighting for…

My Thoughts:

I never thought it’d be so hard to write a review of a book I loved. There is so much going on in this one and it is very funny. I liked all the characters and loved Ricky Lee and Toni. Toni’s family is absolutely, insanely chaotic and hilarious. I was hooked from the first page and stayed up way too late reading it.

Toni  is the “average” one in a family filled with protégés. She keeps her 10 siblings and parents organized, calm, from killing each other and out of jail. With genius family members ranging in age from 3yr. old twins to adults it’s a full time, stress induced job and Toni does it very well. The problem for her siblings comes when she gets a job and starts to live her own life. I loved her dad and how supportive he was. Then she meets Ricky Lee, yep and he’s a country boy living in NYC. Toni finds herself in Ricky’s company a lot, even on a business trip where things get HOT. Of course she fights/struggles with her attraction to him and the feelings of letting her family down by not being there for them. I could feel her confusion at times and yearning to have a life of her own.

Ricky Lee Reed is just awesome in my opinion. He’s sexy, laid back, and goes after what he wants. I love his attitude that if you’re patient the entertainment will come to you and it sure does after he meets Toni and her crew.

I could go on and on about this book, but then you wouldn’t need to read it. I highly recommend this to fans of PNR, especially if you like to laugh along with your romance, action and mystery.

Review: A Bit of Bite

A Bit of Bite by Cynthia Eden
Length: approx. 50 pages
Release Date:  March 10, 2013
My Rating: 3.5

A killer is stalking the streets of Crossroads, Mississippi, and it’s up to Sheriff Ava Dushaine to stop him. But when suspicion falls on werewolf alpha Julian Kasey—Ava’s ex-lover and the man who still haunts her dreams—Ava knows that she’ll either have to prove his innocence…or watch the whole town go up in flames.

My Thoughts:

This is a fantastic short story.  It has all the elements I like: mystery, action, romance and a hot werewolf.

Ava’s job as sheriff is to keep the peace between the shifters, vampires, and humans. Yep, it’s as easy as it sounds, especially with someone out there killing humans and vampires. The suspect turns out to be Ava’s hot one night stand Julian, Alpha of the wolf pack. The connection between the two is strong and Julian wants Ava back. Together they need to find out who’s been doing the killings and keep Ava alive after she’s been betrayed by those she should’ve been able to trust.

For a short story this was remarkably detailed and did leave me wishing it had been longer and more developed. It could’ve easily been novel length.

Detective Astrid Holmes is a sensitive, a human capable of feeling the energy of otherworlders. When she is dispatched to the horrific murder scene of a local vampire, she expects it to be just another day on the job. But when evidence is stolen on her watch, she is removed—not only from the investigation, but from her job as a member of the Chicago police department’s paranormal unit.

Astrid’s only hope of reinstatement lies with her ex co-worker and almost-lover, Lycan Mason Sanderson. But convincing the OWEA agent to let her assist with the investigation isn’t nearly as difficult as staying alive when the murderer realizes that Astrid may hold the key to unlocking his identity.

Fighting to take down a killer could have deadly consequences for Astrid and Mason, but working together puts their already fragile relationship in jeopardy.

My Thoughts:

I had a hard time getting into this one. It never really grabbed my attention. The characters fell a bit flat for me. I had no major editing issues except for a few instances of a complete lack of transition from one place and characters to others. It would happen from one paragraph to the next, not from one chapter to another.  I was left a little confused for a few seconds.

Astrid is a sensitive with the police department and Mason is a were with the Otherworld Enforcement Agency. They work together to sovle a murder after she is relieved of her duty on the force.  She and Mason have some issues to deal with in their personal lives. The sex was steamy if not very detailed.  Mason came across as a strong, silent, and hot alpha.

Cover Reveal: How to Run with a Naked Werewolf!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m so excited to finally be getting another Naked Werewolf book by Molly Harper!
How to run with a naked werewolf  Blurb:

Caleb Graham is a werewolf by nature, a tracker by profession.  He uses his “extra gifts” to find people, and not always in the most legal or ethical manner. He doesn’t care what they’ve done, or who wants them found, as long as his considerable fee is paid. He likes his life simple and uncomplicated.

Anna Moder, former physician to Caleb’s pack, happens across Caleb during a particularly violent “negotiation” that has left him bloodied and unconscious. She helps him, despite the fact that he’s cost her a car, so he insists that she stay with him on the road for a while. As they grow closer, Anna looks past the gruff exterior and and the questionable job to thoroughly decent werewolf underneath.

Anna – who is careful to edit her involvement with Caleb’s pack from their conversations – doesn’t talk about why a nice girl wants to live in the middle of frozen nowhere, but she’s obviously on the run from something. When Anna’s past collides with Caleb’s current assignment from one of his sleazier contacts,  Caleb finally has to make a choice—protect his job…or his potential mate?

Lycan Contempt (Lycan #7) by S.K. Yule

Publisher: Amira Press
Release Date: September 19, 2012
My Rating: 4.5\5

When Kish is burned by another woman who cannot cope with his scarred body, he vows to never again give his heart to another.

Georgia’s blindness has never been a hindrance until a hastily planned trip quickly turns complicated, and she winds up stranded in a raging snowstorm. Not even her guide dog, Lucy, can get her out of this predicament.

When Kish comes across Georgia, his vow is quickly challenged when he discovers she is his mate.

Can Georgia prove to Kish that she is the one woman who will love him scars and all?

Kish is an alpha male that has been hurt deeply by the women he’s chosen to date in the past.  He has decided never open his heart to that kind of pain again. Kish is insecure because of his scars that came from a devastating event in his past. He over hears Henry and Joey in town talking about leaving “her” alone at the cabin and hope they get back to her. When he returns home and realizes “her” friends will not make it back he goes over to make sure she is alright.  Once she opens the door and Kish gets his first smell he knows he’s found his mate. It doesn’t matter he will make sure she is safe, forever, but will not give his heart. Yeah, right!

I loved the way Georgia handled Kish’s insecurity about his scars.  She didn’t patronize him, she told him they meant nothing to her and proceeded to prove it by her words and actions. The scene in the shower when pays attention to every scar? Hot!  Georgia is an independent and confident woman, despite her lack of eyesight.  Although, maybe that’s what has made her so strong.  She had no problem sending her friends to the store while she stayed behind at the cabin.  That is until it snowed so much her friends couldn’t get back to her.  Georgia wasn’t scared for herself; so much as she was worried about Henry and Joey making the hour long drive back in the blizzard.  As she hears the car returning she realizes that it isn’t them returning but a different vehicle.  I think this is the first time she’s felt vulnerable in a while.  She has no real choice to let Kish in to help her and realizes she feels safe with him.

What I liked about this story is the journey the two take to accept the love of each other. Kish to realize that Georgia can and does love him no matter what. Georgia learns to accept all of Kish wolf and man.  The attraction between the two was intense and undeniable.  When they finally come together it is HOT!

Henry and Joey were well developed supporting characters and even managed to make me mad at them for opening their mouths before engaging their brains.  The rouge element was present and added some angst and drama, but not so much that it over shadowed the romance.

The one thing I wasn’t thrilled with was that the epilogue basically started another book.  I like that the main story had a HEA, but felt a little cheated when the epilogue abruptly changed stories.  I like to be left with the characters I started the book with. Adding a teaser at the end of a book is great, but to suddenly turn the page into another story left me feeling as if the book I was reading ended too soon. I admit this is personal issue of mine, but felt it should be mentioned.  If it wasn’t for this I’d have given it 5 stars.
